Nature
The largest Nature Park in mainland France :
The Regional Nature Park of the Auvergne Volcanoes
Lac Pavin - a volcanic crater lake, 92 metres deep
The last volcanic eruption was some 5800 years ago
The Auvergne mountains cover some 200 kilometres
The Tronçais forest : with its ancient oaks, of more than 300 years old
Volcanoes; high, wind-swept plateaus; deep gorges, dug by wild water; crater lakes; exceptional flora... In the Auvergne, nature is on show in all her beauty and diversity.

Rivers and Lakes
Auvergne more than deserves its reputation as the
"reservoir of France" which stems from the abundance of thermal springs found here because of volcanism. For those who prefer fresher, livelier water Auvergne has a thousand options; waterfalls, ponds, crater-lakes, lakes behind lava dams, torrents and rivers…

Vulcania Museum
Thousands of years of volcanism have forged the landscape of Auvergne giving it the special strength and character that make it a unique place in Europe.
Vulcania has been built to honour and promote this uniqueness. A scientific theme park deep in the country side; a place where the discovery of volcanic phenomena and the earth sciences vies with the pleasure of visiting a beautiful nature reserve.

A visit to Vulcania is not like an ordinary museum visit; it is more like plunging into the heart of a riddle in order to answer questions we have all asked ourselves, sometimes from childhood onwards, about the mysteries of volcanoes and the creation of our planet.

Exhibitions
Auvergne is host to a wide variety of cultural events. There are festivals and celebrations throughout the year, the notoriety of some of which extends well beyond the region's borders:

Short Film Festival of Clermont-Ferrand ;
Festival of the Chaîse-Dieu
Street Theatre Festival of Aurillac ;
World Folklore Festival of Gannat and the International Folklore Festival of Murat;
Jazz First Festival of Clermont-Ferrand;
A World of Storytelling Festival of Ambert;
Videoformes Festival of Clermont-Ferrand;
Bird King Renaissance Celebration of the Puy-en-Velay ;
Lyric and Music Season of the Opera of Vichy.

Transport
Today, Auvergne is the hub of an important communications network. Along with the A71 to Paris, the A75 to Montpellier and the A72 to Lyon, the future A89 to Bordeaux will complete the opening up of Auvergne.

In order to extend the effectiveness of national rail links, Auvergne has equipped itself with a modern TER (Regional Express Train) network.
